Leona E. Garretson's Obituary
Leona Elizabeth Van Landingham Garretson
12/22/1921 - 03/14/2021
Betty Garretson was born Leona Elizabeth Van Landingham on December 22, 1921, to parents Thomas Hayden Van Landingham & Lillie Leach Van Landingham. She was raised in Greenville, Texas with her sisters Inez Van Landingham Benthul and Martha Van Landingham Wharton and two older brothers, Eugene Van Landingham and James Hayden (Buddy) Van Landingham. On January 31, 1944, she married John Daniel Garretson, and they had three daughters whom they loved dearly. "Ms. Betty" was also known lovingly to generations of children who passed through her preschool classroom at Garland Road Church of Christ and later Highland Oaks Church of Christ, where she was a devout member of faith. She will be fondly remembered for her roses and landscaping, cooking meals and entertaining friends & family, watching Cowboys' games and General Hospital, and playing Chickenfoot Dominoes with family. Betty is survived by her sister Martha & husband Ed Wharton & their family as well as her daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren: Phyllis & Mickey Lathan, Jim & Maddie Lathan, Tim & Julia Lathan and Sadie & Heidi; Susan Garretson Davis, Julie Davis, Jennifer & Tommy Burns and Mazzy; and Glenda & Brent Smith, Caitlin Broom and Leila, and Cameron & Jamie Broom.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to
Little Acorns School in care of Highland Oaks Church of Christ where Ms. Betty taught for years.
