Leona R. Kennedy's Obituary
Leona R. Kennedy passed from her earthly family to her heavenly family on April 21, 2010; cause of death was cancer. She was a devoted mother and wife who warmly greeted new and old friends; she was a constant and positive influence on the lives of all those with whom she met and loved. Born in Murphysboro, Il.on April 25, 1920 she later moved to Dallas, TX where she met the love of her life, Arlan Kennedy; joined in matrimony, they raised four sons Ron Unger, Dennis Unger, Larry Kennedy, and Billy Kennedy. She was preceded in death by her dear mother Grace Coleman and her loving son Dennis. She leaves behind, her husband, three sons, eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Her passing leaves a void in the lives of her family and friends. The memories of her will forever exist and comfort our sorrow. There were many lessons she taught her “boys”. But the one everyone agrees was the one she reinforced the most was her emphasizing their having a strong work ethic. Not one to only voice her lessons, she practiced them as well. This is exemplified by her having worked for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas for over 30 years and also working part-time at the original Kirby’s Steakhouse for over 25 years. She had many great friends, too many to name, but one she talked with daily for over 50 years was Maybell Crabtree. We all will miss our mom, dad’s eternal partner, and the friend to and of many, but our lives will be so enriched because of her unconditional love. There will be a viewing on Sunday, April 25 at Restland Funeral Home,13005 Greenville Avenue from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 26 at the Wildwood Chapel.
