Leona "Lea" Markoff's Obituary
Leona Markoff, affectionately known as “Lea” to her family and friends, went home to be with the Lord on December 27, 2025, at 5:54 PM, at the age of 76.
Born in New York City, Lea was a dedicated scholar, musician, and devout Christian. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Music and a master’s degree in Library Science. Her professional legacy includes spearheading and creating the Jewish genealogy collection at the Dallas Public Library, a resource that has helped countless individuals explore their heritage.
Lea never married but devoted her life to serving others through her groundbreaking library work, her deep love of music, and her faithful prayers that comforted many. An accomplished pianist and longtime member of Grace Bible Church, she brought joy and spiritual encouragement to those around her.
She is survived by her brother, Alan H. Markoff, and his wife, Crispina L. Markoff; and by her nephews (Alan’s sons), Stephen David Markoff and Philip Sam Markoff (wife Tatiana Markoff) and their daughter (her great-niece), 11-month-old Dalena Markoff.
There will be no visitation. A graveside memorial service will be held on January 12, 2026 at 3 PM at Restland Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace Bible Church or to a music or library-related charity of your choice.
