Ruth Little Dean
It's now 2026, and the 50th anniversary of graduating Pacific High School. I had just transferred to Pacific from San Antonio, TX very shortly before graduation. I wasn't in the yearbook, and felt a bit like a stranger, graduating from a brand new school so soon.
Then, Leonard, whom I remembered from jr high science, approached me and asked me to be his partner, to walk with at the commencement ceremony!! I was so surprised and pleased!! We talked endlessly about music. I had been chosen to conduct the girl's choir at Baccalaureate. I was a bit nervous, and Leonard was right there. He gave me all kinds of encouragement and examples. I wasn't at all nervous when it came time. In fact, I'd never felt so well-prepared. The song was just beautiful !
Walking with him at graduation was quite fun! At first, I was actually trembling a bit, but he grinned at me, put my hand on his arm, and instantly the happiness of the occasion was all I felt! It no longer mattered that I was new. Suddenly these 440 classmates were my classmates.
I am so very sorry to hear of his passing, and even more sorry that I am so late with this memory. It was so wonderful reading about his life, career, and family. I cherish his memory, and will always remember how his strong, cheerful, friendly nature turned my frown upside down!! I Googled his name, hoping to find reunion information, and I'm so grateful for this opportunity to thank Leonard's loved ones and share his thoughtful acts towards me. God bless you all, and may God continue to hold Leonard in his arms as the treasure he is!
