Young, Leonard Ernest's Obituary
Leonard was born April 16, 1936 to Leonard and Elizabeth Young in Dallas, TX, the eldest of 3 children. During his childhood, the family lived in Dallas, Glen Rock, WY, and Perrin, TX. Leonard met Scherrie Owen on a blind date and they married on May 31, 1957 and their lifelong love affair lasted until Scherrie's passing in 2016. They had 4 children together and lived in Dallas for most of their lives before moving to East Texas.
Leonard had an entrepreneurial spirit. While a volunteer with the Dallas Emergency Corp, he saw a need for home oxygen therapy. He started an oxygen supply business in 1957 and soon became one of the nation's first registered respiratory therapists. Leonard went on to manage and own several successful medical businesses.
Despite the hard work growing businesses, Leonard also found time for fun. He was a private pilot and owned a plane as well as a cabin cruiser. So many wonderful family memories were made on flights, boat outings, and numerous ski and beach adventures with family and friends.
He was an excellent cook and dog lover extraordinaire. He had a quick wit and was quite funny.
Leonard was a lifelong and devoted Christian. A man of integrity and faith, Leonard would often help family or friends in need and never sought recognition or praise. He was an avid reader of his Bible and very active in the churches he attended.
Leonard was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Scherrie Young. He is survived by 4 children; Sherylen Yoak of Scottsdale, AZ; Kerri Chiccola of Cascade, CO ; Greg and wife Danita Young of Quitman, TX and Lisa Chavez and husband Salvador of Abilene TX; as well as 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren and dear companion, Teresa Foss and family of Redwood City, CA.
