Leonor "Nora" Betancourt's Obituary
Leonor "Nora" Cuellar Betancourt, 94, of Dallas, Texas, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2026. She was born on September 29, 1931, in Kaufman, Texas, to Pedro and Carolina Cuellar.
On September 2, 1948, Nora married the love of her life, Elias Betancourt, and together they built a beautiful family rooted in faith, service, and devotion. Leonor was a woman of deep love and generosity, known for her warm heart and gifted hands. She adored her family above all else and expressed her love through her talents—sewing, crocheting, making clothing for her children, and lovingly completing puzzles.
She was a proud member of the United Methodist Women of the Rio Grande Conference Society of Christian Service which began in 1967. She continued her faith‑driven work through the United Methodist Women beginning in 1973 with the North Texas Conference and remained active to the present day with the United Women of Faith in the Horizon Texas Conference.
She also dedicated over 40 years of service to Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, where she lovingly crocheted blankets for premature babies, sewed gowns and made bedsheets for the patients in the hospital. Her life was a testament to kindness, faith, and quiet service to others.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elias Betancourt; her son, Charles Betancourt; her grandson, Juan Manuel Cardona; her granddaughter, Christina Cardona; and her great‑grandson, Ruben Cardona.
She is survived by her children, Nora Ann Almanza (Richard), Peter Betancourt, Irene Wells, Denise Betancourt, and Tito Samuel Betancourt (Angie); along with 12 grandchildren and 21 great‑grandchildren, all of whom will continue to carry her love and memory in their hearts.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, honoring Leonor’s decades of service and compassion.
