Leopoldo Carrillo's Obituary
Leopoldo Carrillo, Sr. (April 15, 1940 - April 18, 2024)
With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Leopoldo “Papa” Carrillo, Sr., a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend, who left us peacefully on April 18, 2024, at the age of 84. He was surrounded by love and strength.
Born in Bogotá, Colombia, to Pablo Carrillo and Alicia Cifuentes, Leopoldo grew up alongside his three brothers, Jorge, Herman, Eduardo, and his sister, Alicia, and a host of cousins and extended family members.
After traveling the world as a merchant marine, his journey led him to New Orleans, Louisiana, where he met the love of his life, Edna. Together, they raised a family and built a beautiful life in Lakeview, New Orleans, enjoying 58 years of marriage until her recent passing. His sense of duty, fueled by his profound devotion to Edna, was evident in every aspect of his life, ensuring his family felt loved and secure. Committed to the love he shared with Edna, Papa built a legacy of steadfastness, compassion, and grace, setting an example for everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Papa’s professional sales and management career showcased his aptitude for numbers and amicable disposition. Everyone he knew and worked with liked him. As a man of principle, with deep devotion to his family and humor, Papa will forever live in the hearts of those who knew him.
Post Katrina, he and Edna moved to Dallas, Texas, to start anew. There, he retired and became closer to their growing family, cherishing many joyful years surrounded by their children, grandchildren, nieces, and extended family.
An avid soccer enthusiast, Papa passionately supported Colombian soccer teams and enjoyed playing chess and testing his luck with the lottery.
Papa is survived by his siblings Eduardo (Martha) and Alicia; his children Jorge, Leopoldo Jr. (Jennifer (Jenni)), Pablo, Louis, and Edna Rose (Jonathan); his cherished grandchildren, Gia, Isabella, Leo III, Sophia, and Anthony; and his great-grandchildren Brady and Aradia.
Our family would like to take this moment to thank our cousins, Nora and Patty, for being there every step of the way with both of our parents.
A private gathering will be held at the family home, a place of many happy memories and profound love.
We invite you to share your memories and condolences in the guestbook below as we remember a beautifully lived and thoroughly loved life.
