Leslie Sue Kemp's Obituary
The eldest daughter of Brooke and Jean Shirley, Leslie Kemp was born in March 1945 and died in March 2015. She is survived by her husband Charles, who was her high school sweetheart, and their son David. She is also survived by two sisters, Julia Smith and Shannon Shirley, and by numerous nieces and nephews. Leslie dedicated her life to serving the poor – refugees, immigrants, and others who were left out of the healthcare system. She helped hundreds of students from Baylor and other universities to understand poverty and to help even in seemingly hopeless situations. Justice was not a merely concept for her, but a verb. Justice was what she did. Leslie gave not only with her time and with her skills as a social worker, but also with her heart. Everyone she encountered could perceive her aura of love, kindness, and generosity. She had a passion for helping others that is evident in the countless people whose lives she touched and forever changed. And she truly embodied the concept of agape—unselfish, unconditional love for others. Our hearts are filled with sorrow at her death and gratitude for her beautiful life. Services for Leslie Kemp will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday March 18, 2015 at The Wildwood Chapel at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75238 at Restland Road. In lieu of flowers we ask that you honor Leslie by doing an act of kindness for a stranger.
