Leslie D. Scott's Obituary
95, was born February 28, 1913 in Speegleville, Texas. He passed away on May 3, 2008. The eldest son of Rush and Ida Mae Scott, Leslie received his undergraduate degree from Southern Methodist University and Divinity degree from the Perkins School of Theology. In 1940, after graduation, he married his college sweetheart, Onita Greenhaw, and accepted his first ministerial appointment. During his 50 years as a Methodist minister in the Texas Conference, he served churches in Galveston, Houston, Bryan, Bay City, Tyler and other east Texas towns. After retirement, he served as a Chaplain for The Hospice of North Texas and as a volunteer at the Medical Center of Mesquite. His life was devoted to serving others. Leslie was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Dennis Scott, and his sister Mary Sparks. He is survived by his beloved wife Onita, son Philip and wife Joyce of Tyler, daughter Jeannie Nethery and husband David of Dallas, brother Melvin and wife Shirley of Dickinson, nieces and nephews. Visitation will be on Thursday, May 8, 2008 from 2 to 4 at Restland Funeral Home, 13005 Greenville Avenue. A celebration of Leslie’s life will be held 2:00 Friday, May 9, 2008 at First United Methodist Church in Mesquite, 300 N. Galloway. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Leslie D. Scott Memorial Fund at FUMC Mesquite, 300 N. Galloway Mesquite, Texas 75149 or to the American Cancer Society, 8900 Carpenter Frwy., Dallas, TX 75247
