Mr. Lester Goree Smith's Obituary
SMITH, LESTER. G. “SMITTY”, A Richardson resident since 1967, passed away at Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas on January 17, 2007. Born November 12, 1920 in Iola, Texas, and raised in Bryan, the 1944 graduate of Texas A&M University served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. “Smitty” served as the executive vice-president of the Richardson Chamber of Commerce from 1967-1986. He also worked in the same capacity with the chambers of commerce in Cameron, New Braunfels, Conroe and Brazosport during his 39 year career. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 57 years, Almarie Brady Smith of Richardson. Family survivors also include Smith’s daughter, Becky Long and her husband, Richard of Dallas; son, Steve Smith of Richardson; grandchildren, Rich Long, Jr. and his wife, Kelly of Seattle; Ryan Long and his wife, Sarah of Dallas, and Brett Long of Dallas; great-grandchildren, Kylie and Cartter Long of Seattle. A memorial service will be conducted at the First United Methodist Church of Richardson at 10:00 AM, Saturday, January 20, 2007 . Burial will be scheduled at Lilac Cemetery in Milam County, Texas.
