Leta Bonnez Oling's Obituary
Mrs. Leta Bonnez Oling, 97, of Carrollton, Texas passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 26, 2019, in Carrollton, Texas. She was born on Monday, September 12, 1921, to her loving and thoughtful parents, John Grady Qualls and Arra Breshears in Story, Arkansas. She married Louis Oling on November 14, 1959 in Dallas, Texas. Leta taught herself to read at an early age and graduated high school at age 16. She the passed the Arkansas State Teachers Exam and taught all twelve grades in a one room schoolhouse near Story, Arkansas for a year.Leta’s work career included Executive Secretary, Secretary of the Pastor of Woodbridge Baptist Church in Irving, and when an empty-nester, secretary with Braniff Airlines. Lou and Leta loved to travel the world ans especially enjoyed Hawaii, Japan, and Europe.Leta and Lou were members of the Homebuilders Class at First United Methodist Church. Leta also served as a Children’s Leader in Bible Study Fellowship.Leta derived great satisfaction in helping others. She and Lou delivered Meals on Wheels in the Irving area for years. They enjoyed sponsoring Vietnamese families, helping them adapt to life in America, tutoring them in English, and helping them learn the American Culture. They fostered several Vietnamese children until families were reunited or permanent home were found.Leta’s main joy in life was her family. With the grandchildren, Friday nights were dedicated to one-at-a-time sleepovers, and the kids kept close tabs on whose turn it was! Her pancakes are still mentioned in family reminiscing. Lots of good stories came from the many vacations Leta and Lou took the grandchildren on around the country. Gran passed in the Oling family tradition for making the Dutch pastry (Bankets) to her daughters and great grand daughters. It just wasn’t Christmas without Gran’s Bankets!Leta was an avid Bingo Player and racked up drawers full of prizes from her games. She still enjoyed doing her newspaper crossword puzzles in ink everyday.Leta was often referred to as a “classy lady.” She was unfailingly kind and had a quick wit to the end. She left an indelible imprint on the lives of her family and friends.She is survived by her daughter, Judith Ann Fallon and David of Mount Ida, Arkansas. her son, John B. Williams and Doretta of Carrollton, Texas, her sister, Carol Jo Ford of Mount Ida, Arkansas, her grandchildren, Doug Fallon and Michelle, Joanna Smith and Greg, Matt and Desi, Cheryl Mabrey and Ryan Williams, and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Oling, her brothers, Creo Qualls and Grady Qualls Jr.Matthew 25:23 Well done, good and faithful servant!Visitation for Mrs. Leta Bonnez Oling will be held Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at Restland Funeral Home.
