Lewis Allen Barnard's Obituary
A beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away on June 7, 2018 in Richardson, TX at age 80. He was preceded in death by his parents, William (Bill) Barnard and Clara Mae (Alley) Barnard of Little Rock, AR; and his brother, Col. M. Jay Barnard, of Pensacola, FL. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jo Ellen (Clark) Barnard; his daughters, Cheryl Barnard Cox and Cathryn Melanie Barnard; his grandchildren, Russell Lewis Wilhite, Amanda Sue Wilhite DeSimone and her husband Justin DeSimone and William “Connor” Cox; and Lewis’s brother William (Bill) Barnard of Norcross, GA.Lewis was born on May 30, 1938. He graduated from Little Rock Central High School in Little Rock, AR in 1956 and from the University of Arkansas in 1961 with a degree in Chemical Engineering. At the University of Arkansas he was President of his fraternity Sigma Alpha Epsilon and Vice President of Theta Tau engineering fraternity. He was also a Cadet Colonel in the Air Force ROTC.After college, he worked briefly for the State of Arkansas as an engineer before entering the military in 1961 as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Air Force. He was an instructor pilot at Vance Air Force base in Enid, OK from 1962 until 1967 where he advanced to the rank of Captain.After fulfilling his Air Force commitment, he flew for American Airlines for 32 years. He retired as a Captain in 1998. During that time, he flew the 707, BAC 1-11, 727, MD Super 80, 757 and 767 airplanes.In addition to his love for flying, Lewis was very dedicated and devoted to his family. He will truly be missed by them.Contributions in his name may be made to Christ United Methodist Church, 3101 Coit Road, Plano, TX 75075.The family requests that visiting hours for Mr. Barnard on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM in the Wildwood Chapel at Restland Funeral Home. A funeral service for Lewis will follow at 12:30 PM in the Wildwood Chapel at Restland Funeral Home.Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Cemetery, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, Texas 75243.
