Lewis Richard "Dick" Henderson's Obituary
Born June 8, 1926 in Belton, TX and passed away Oct 6, 2015 in Richardson, TX, Preceded in death by his wife, Bettye Jo; grandson, Jason Lovell; brother, Danny; parents, Daniel and Hazel. Survived by daughters, Kaye Wilson of Rockwall and Lori Knapp of Houston; sisters, Jane Black of Corinth and June Langenbacler of Timpson; nieces, Gaye Minx and Peggy Alexander of Dallas. Dick graduated from Hillcrest High School and joined the Marines to fight in the Pacific during WWII. He enjoyed a membership in the Masonic Lodges of Dallas and Richardson. He held the offices of Master of Ceremony, Eagle Junior Steward and endowed member of Richardson Eagle Lodge No 41. He was awarded a 60 year service award in 2014. He held the office of Worthy Patron of the Richardson Chapter # 921 Order of the Eastern Star. Dick was employed at State Farm Insurance in Dallas & Austin for 30 years. He enjoyed being a ham operator for many years. He remembered his call letters, K5SWX, even when his memory failed for most everything else. He volunteered many hours to reading on tape for the blind. Dick & Bettye were members of Redeemer Bible Church, Dallas. Dick was a resident of Cottonwood Creek Health Care Community, Richardson for 4 1/2 years. The staff is personable and professional. The 2nd floor nursing staff met every need & helped make the days full. Hospice Plus nurses were especially knowledgeable of Dick’s fight with Parkinson’s and dementia, helping him to bear the diseases’ effects. The family is thankful to each one for their kindness. Visitation will be Thursday, October 08, 2015 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM on at Restland Funeral Home. Services will be at 10:00 AM on Friday, October 9, 2015 in The Wildwood Chapel at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243.
