Lewis (Mike) William Hawkins' Obituary
Lewis William Hawkins – always known as Mike. He was 99 years old and lived a full, happy life. Mike was born in West Virginia and moved with his parents to Oklahoma when he was one day old. To know Mike was to Love him. He was a gentle soul, quiet but strong. Mike was a devout Christian man who loved the Lord. He was always willing to help Anyone, anyway, he could. He was steady and dependable. He didn’t worry, just said “God would take care of it. A true worker for God and his church. He was a member of First Baptist Church Farmers Branch for 55 years. He was a graduate of a business college in Oklahoma City. After graduation and as he was leaving the college, a lady at the desk asked him “You ready for a job now?” “Sure,” he said and applied at Mid-Continent Trucking Company. He was later transferred to Dallas. He worked as a “rate clerk” moved up the ladder to a management position. He was a loyal and dedicated employee. He worked there till he retired at age 65. It was his only job! He loved sports. He was an avid OU and Dallas Cowboy fan! He was preceded in death by his parents, Arlie Ross Hawkins, Ida Clair Trout Hawkins Keith, son, Arlie Hawkins; daughter, Virginia Kay Cregger and Patricia Ann Cummins; brother, Thayer Hawkins; sister Cora Hawkins Mourning and Beulah Phillips. He is survived by a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Monday, September 18, 2017, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church in Farmers Branch, followed by a service at 11:00 AM, with a burial at Oak Grove Cemetery in Irving.
