Lewis Hershel Sheriff Jr.'s Obituary
A devoted father, passionate systems engineer, computer programmer, an avid photographer and the kindest man ever, Lewis Hershel Sheriff, Jr. of Frisco, Texas passed away peacefully in his home while holding his wife’s hand on August 29, 2023, at the age of 79.
Lew was born on June 24, 1944, in Hollywood, California to Lewis and Luise Sheriff. He graduated from Bryan Adams High School in 1962 in Dallas, Texas, and went on to attend The University of Texas in Austin where he graduated in 1967 with a BBA in accounting. He met his wife, Clare, in 1982, and they were married on Sunday, June 1, 1986, at the Dallas Arboretum. It was pouring rain on the day, which to some is considered good luck.
He enjoyed working in Europe where he spent time in Copenhagen with Rockwell Collins and in Italy for the Italian Post and Telegraph. Lew then began his entrepreneurship journey with multiple Telephony partnerships and his own company (Hershel Enterprises) where he consulted with GTE, Bell Atlantic, Bell Canada, and Mobil oil. He mentored many other programmers at NTC and Verisign.
A man of many interests and hobbies, Lew was an avid bridge player and used his skills in the game to generate spending money while in college. He also enjoyed fishing in Colorado with his kids and had a keen eye behind the lens with his photography company Visual Insights. He loved to play board games and cards with his family, and watching his grandchildren play sports.
Lew was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease 22 years ago, but he didn’t let that get in the way of living his life and he managed it with an incredible attitude and a smile on his face. He was a man of few words, but when he had something to say it was worth hearing.
Lewis Hershel Sheriff, Jr. is survived by his wife Clare; sons Clay and wife Lara Sheriff, Luke Tiernan, Kyle and wife Brittany Sheriff; his daughter Jessica and husband Daniel Bernard; his brother Jeff and wife Laura Sheriff. His grandchildren; Madelyn and husband Braden Hague, Adam Sheriff, Caleb Sheriff, Kyla Sheriff, Cole Sheriff. His sisters-in-law Gale and husband Kirk Fisher; Jane and husband Jerry Irwin; brother-in-law Peter Augustine; and many nieces and nephews.
Lewis was a kind and loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed.
