Lida Mary Brown's Obituary
Mary Brown passed to her heavenly home on October 31, 2022. She was born on December 30, 1923 in Taylor, Texas to Dr. Edmund Marshall Munroe and Mary Maple Evans Munroe. She grew up in Houston before going to Georgia to attend Agnes Scott College. Mary graduated with honors from Agnes Scott in 1945 with a degree in Mathematics and a minor in Physics. Upon graduation, she moved to Maryland to work as a mathematician at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab. On June 15, 1950 she married William Glen McLoughlin. Together they moved to several locations across the country raising 4 children before they settled in Dallas in 1964. William passed away in 1971. At that time, Mary went to work for the Richardson ISD and eventually retired from the Tax office there. On August 17, 1985, she married Robert Fletcher Brown. Mary and Bob enjoyed many years together travelling the globe until Bob passed away in 2002.
Mary led a very active life. As a young woman, she was active in several sports including tennis, softball, and basketball. She remained an active tennis player throughout most of her life. As an adult, she also took up bowling and was active in several bowling leagues. She was an avid Bridge player and was always ready to join a Bridge Club or a foursome. She was active in community organizations. She also enjoyed being a hostess and could put on elegant parties, often with little notice. Mary's faith was a center point of her life. She was an active member of Episcopal Church of the Ascension since 1964 and was an integral participant in the growth of that church. Mary loved to travel, see new things, and experience other cultures.
Mary is preceded in death by both of her husbands, her parents, her stepmother, Margaurite Erwin Munroe, and her brother, Marshall Evans Munroe. She is survived by her children: Mary Louise Gonzalez, Katherine Ann McLoughlin, William Glen McLoughlin Jr. (Miranda), and Michael Evans McLoughlin (Karen); her step children: Daryl Gulick Brown (Candice Jennings), Ralph Fletcher Brown (Karen), Marian Louise Mayfield, and Brian Scott Brown (Addie). She is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
A Memorial celebration of Mary Brown's life will be held on December 2, 2022 at 10:00am at the Episcopal Church of the Ascension, 8787 Greenville Ave., Dallas 75243. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer's Foundation can be made in Mary Brown's name at alzfd.org.
