Grandma Lillie was a lover of reading, and she deepened my own love by giving my sister and me a treasure trove of books. She introduced us to Anne of Green Gables and Trixie Beldon. I can’t explain how deeply I cherish these gifts, or how much they have impacted my life. Her home was always warm and inviting. My siblings and I loved playing in her basement on Thanksgiving and Christmas. I loved marveling at the glass shoes in her sitting room, the cat and dog figurines in her entryway, and Grandpa George’s toy cars lining the staircase descending into the basement. When I build my final home here on earth, I hope to model it after their wise example. I pray it is as full of family and love and sweet memories as theirs. I praise God she is reunited with Jesus and her love, Grandpa George, and I eagerly await the day I am able to embrace her and Grandpa George in heaven, where we’ll celebrate together, and I’ll get to tell her in person how I hold dear the books and wisdom she passed on to us. - Eunice Ndungu
