Lin Cave Wetterau Jr.'s Obituary
Well done good and faithful servant!
Lin Wetterau, age 94, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on September 26, 2025. Born in Paris, TX on August 13, 1931, Lin was the son of Allie (Hardiman) and L. C. Wetterau, Sr. of Nashville TN, and was the brother of Jane (Lee III) Pope of Chattanooga TN and Alice (Bill) Case of Carrollton TX (all of whom predeceased him).
In high school, Lin played Right Guard for the Hillsboro Burros and was team Co-Captain. Lin graduated Vanderbilt Cum Laude with a B.E. in Electrical Engineering. He was a member of TBП Engineering Honorary Society. In addition to his work/study program, Lin was a licensed radio transmitter engineer at WSM TV.
Lin moved to Dallas to work for Collins Radio, but after two years there, was inducted into the Army and stationed at the Redstone Arsenal assigned to guided missile engineering in the Radio Frequency and Telemetry Lab. After his service, Lin moved to Dallas and then began a 37-year career at Texas Instruments, where he is named on two patents. Lin achieved an M.E. in Electrical Engineering from S.M.U.
Lin met his wife of 62 years Mary Irene McDonald in the Dan Rogers Sunday School Class at Park Cities Baptist where they were members for several years and made lifelong friends. From 1973-1984 they moved with Texas Instruments to Lubbock, TX and attended Second Baptist there. Upon their return to Dallas, they joined Highland Park Presbyterian where they were members of the Disciples Sunday School Class. Lin served as a Deacon and an Elder.
Lin loved ham radio (W5BLC), fishing with Mac McDonald, scouting with his sons, and playing bridge. He was a licensed pilot, a member of Texas Society of Professional Engineers, IEEE, ARRL, Richardson Civic Arts Society, and Southwestern Watercolor Society. As an artist, he is remembered for his quick sketches of people from life on 2x2 pieces of paper and for his watercolors. He gave generously of his time volunteering extensively with LIFT and at the Church. Lin and Mary enjoyed taking each of their grandchildren to Europe before their high school graduations.
Lin is survived by his sons L. Cave Wetterau III (and wife Karen) of Spicewood, TX and James Thaddeus Wetterau (and wife Lee Ann) of Richardson, TX. His four grandchildren are Stephen Wetterau (and wife Hailey), David Wetterau (and wife Paula), Sarah Wetterau and Hannah Wetterau, as well as extended family and many friends. A Memorial Service will be held at Highland Park Presbyterian Church, Wynne Chapel at 2:00 pm on October 24, 2025, with a reception to follow. Interment will be held at a future date at Greenwood Cemetery, Camden AR.
