Ling-Ling Zhou's Obituary
It is with great sadness we announce the loss of our beloved mother, Ling Ling Zhou. Our mother passed away on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at the age of 82. She passed peacefully after a 10+ year battle with Multi-System Atrophy in Richardson, TX. She is survived by her devoted husband of 56 years, our father, Shaohui Wang. She is also survived by her son Bing Wang; daughter Jing Wang Chiang; 3 grandchildren Theo, Olivia, and Averie Chiang; and a niece and nephew. She is predeceased by her older brother Gang Zhou, father Young Chang Cheo, and mother Yuzhu Tang.
Our mother was born on February 6, 1938 in Nanjing China. She received her electrical engineering degree from the Harbin Institute of Technology, where she met our father 64 years ago. She and my father survived the Cultural Revolution where they were sent to the countryside for hard labor and re-education for years. She was reunited with her father, who left China in 1946 to study in the USA, after Mao’s death. This led to our family’s opportunity to immigrate to the United States in 1980. Not knowing any English, she worked hard to support the family in Corvallis, Oregon, while my father was earning a graduate degree in electrical engineering. In 1984 our family then moved to Dallas, TX where my father worked as a semiconductor engineer at Texas Instruments, and she also worked in the semiconductor industry. She has dedicated her life to supporting our family, making sure we had the best education possible and the freedom to pursue our dreams. I still remember her words to us, “Whatever you choose to do, always do your best”.
She was known by all who met her for her kindness, positive attitude, and hard work ethic. Our memory of mom is always a gentle touch and a warm smile for everyone she meets. She loved to cook 10-course Chinese feasts and dumplings, hundreds at a time, for our family’s voracious appetite. She loved traveling and taking long walks with my dad. She enjoyed watching old American movies and sobbing to Asian soap operas. Most people don’t know she was a huge Cowboy’s fan. Honest hard work was the virtue she held in the highest regard. Before her illness, she helped care for each of her grandchildren and traveled around the world with us even while battling her illness. We all cherish the summers she and my father visited Palo Alto to spend time with the grandkids and see their many friends at the “Little Park”. We’re blessed to have innumerable fond memories of quality time with our beloved mother, grandmother, and wife. She was deeply loved and will be missed beyond measure.
