Lloyd Whalen "Papaw"'s Obituary
WHALEN, Lloyd, “Papaw”, much loved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, left this world on December 31, 2018 at 94 years of age to join his heavenly Father. He was born on December 17, 1924 to Dewey and Viola Whalen in Aquilla, Texas and grew up in Crosbyton, Texas with his three brothers Hollis, Bob and Harold. He served his Country honorably and nobly during World War II in the United States Navy where he was awarded the Purple Heart. Lloyd married Joanne Niece on July 3, 1949 and was a faithful servant to the Lord and charter member of Shiloh Terrace Baptist Church. He and Joanne lived in Dallas, Texas and raised three beautiful children, Rebecca, Douglas and Stephanie and then moved to Garland, Texas. Lloyd owned his own air-conditioning service and enjoyed it so much he retired when he was forced at age 90. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years, Joanne and his sister-in-law, Frances Whalen. He is survived by his three children and their spouses: Rebecca and Don Casey, Douglas and Sherri Whalen, and Stephanie and Garry Krueger; grandchildren: Megan Krueger-Stewart, Jordan Krueger, Rachel Krueger, Kim Whalen-Mega, Andy Whalen, and Colin Casey; and their spouses: Jon Stewart, Curt Mega, and Amy Whalen; great-grandchildren: Kylie and Hannah Stewart; brothers and spouses: Hollis and Jean Whalen of Lubbock, TX, Harold and Shawn Whalen of Kerrville, TX and Bob Whalen of Dallas, TX. He also leaves to cherish his memory his extended family and numerous nieces and nephews.Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm on Friday, January 4, 2019 at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral Service: 11 AM Saturday January 5, 2019 at Shiloh Terrace Baptist Church, 9810 La Prada Drive Dallas, TX 75228. Interment will follow at Restland Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Shiloh Terrace Baptist Church in memory of Lloyd Whalen.
