Loeta Sue Simms' Obituary
Loeta Sue Nelson Simms was born on December 13, 1929, in Dallas , Texas to Sue Franklin Plant Nelson and James Allen Nelson. Like many children in the 1930s, she and her brother James grew up in a challenging financial situation. Her mother made upholstery in Houston, while her father worked in the shipyards of the Northwest. Sue frequently spent summers with the other family members in Tioga or Pilot Point, in Northeast Texas, after the family moved back to Dallas.
Sue graduated from Crozier Tech High School in Dallas and started work immediately at the First National Bank in downtown Dallas, where she spent 28 years. Later in life, she worked at other banks, and also as a home sale hostess on Swiss Ave and also for Pulte Homes. After her retirement, she worked for Frank and Merrie Ann King.
Sue married Willie Joe Simms, also a banker, in 1950, and they had one daughter, Nancy. Sue was a longtime member of a local bowling league with other bank employees. After she retired, she traveled with her sister-in-law, Lavonne Nelson, to London and St. Petersburg. She loved her kitties: Satin Shadow, a black Persian, and then Mandy and Jackson, loving and lucky adoptees. Her last years were spent at Beacon Hill Rehabilitation and Retirement Center in Denison, Texas , and the family extends heartfelt thanks for their compassionate and expert care.
