Lois Harbaugh and Luther William Harbaugh Jr.'s Obituary
Luther William Harbaugh Jr. and Lois Harbaugh have been released from their earthly bodies and welcomed into the eternal presence of their Lord. Lois entered into glory on October 28, 2023, and Luther followed on May 28, 2025. Married for 59 years, their love story continues in eternity.
Luther was born on December 12, 1940, in Richmond, Virginia. A proud Hokie, he earned his degree in electrical engineering from Virginia Tech. His career was marked by brilliance and purpose, contributing to the development of communication devices for the Apollo missions—an enduring legacy of innovation and exploration. He went on to work for AT&T, leaving that position to develop some of the first computer labs in schools.
Lois was born on September 16, 1942, in Elmhurst, Illinois, and raised in California. She attended Wheaton College, where a serendipitous introduction through her roommate led her to Luther. They married in 1964 and built a life centered on faith, family, and service. Lois became a beloved science teacher, known for her passion for space and her unwavering belief in her students. Her classroom was a place of wonder, encouragement, and discovery.
Together, they raised two children, son Luther Harbaugh III and daughter Michelle Bradley. Their home was filled with laughter, learning, and love. They lived in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, before moving to Plano, Texas, and eventually settling in Dallas where they were active members of First Baptist Church of Dallas and later Prestonwood Baptist Church. Their passionate love for children and the next generations led them to use their dining room for the birth of what has now become Thrive Women’s Clinic.
Even in retirement, Luther continued to serve, becoming a school bus driver for special education students in the Plano and Mesquite school districts. Known for his kindness, generosity, and quick wit, he brought joy to everyone he met. Lois, ever the nurturer, remained devoted to her students and family, her faith in others shining through in every interaction. She was social, spirited, and full of humor—a light in every room.
They shared a love for travel, especially to Spain, Germany, and England, and a deep devotion to each other and their community. Their lives were a testament to faith, perseverance, and the power of love.
Luther and Lois leave behind a legacy of compassion, curiosity, and connection. They are survived by their children and all those whose lives they touched with grace and joy.
They are now reunited, hand in hand, in the presence of their Savior, Jesus.
A memorial service for Luther will be held at Grace Redeemer Community Church (www.graceredeemerchurch.org) on Saturday, June 28 at 1:00, located at 4230 W Buckingham Road, Garland, TX 75042.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Thrive Women’s Clinic in the name of Lois Harbaugh.
