Lois Elaine Aurich's Obituary
Lois, born Lois Elaine Pohlmann on November 3, 1930, died peacefully at home in Plano Texas on July 12, 2025. Born in Deshler, Nebraska on the family farm, the only child of Arthur and Rosa Pohlmann. She attended Deshler High School followed by St. John’s College, Winfield, Kansas graduating in 1950 with a degree in education. In 1946 during orientation at St. John’s a spark was ignited when she met her future husband Vernold Aurich with whom she embarked upon a future of love and happiness. Lois and Vernold were married on June 21,1953 and made their first home in Stamford Conn.
Vernold served as a Lutheran minister in Ann Arbor Michigan, Lincoln Nebraska, Hutchinson Kansas and lastly Zion Lutheran Church in Dallas, Texas. Lois worked as an Administrative Assistant at Dallas Lutheran High School, was active in Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, Bethel Bible studies, Bell choir and other volunteer jobs at her church.
After Vernold’s death in 1989, Lois moved from Dallas to Plano to be near her daughter Susan Lenihan and family. Her final home was on the edge of Plano adjoining a nature preserve, a perfect sanctuary for her later years. She kept her mind open and active with books, crossword puzzles, world news and travels to visit her daughter Sarah Hatay and family in Istanbul, Turkey. Always a farm girl at heart, she valued her rural upbringing, solitude, and community. Nebraska sunsets were her favorite, and she kept lifelong ties to her hometown of Deshler, Nebraska. A selfless and devoted Wife and Mother, her support of her family knew no bounds.
Lois was preceded in death by her beloved husband Vernold Waldemar Aurich and her parents Rosa and Arthur Pohlmann.
She is survived by her four children: Susan Lenihan (John) of Plano TX, Carla Aurich of Newburgh, NY, Bradley Aurich of Flower Mound, TX and Sarah Hatay (Levent) of Istanbul, Turkey. Her beloved grandchildren Heather Whiteman (Garrett), Amy Bankler (Chris), Christine Nathaniel (Walt), Sinan Hatay, Koray Hatay, four great-grandchildren and many friends and relatives.
Celebration of Life Service at Prine of Peace Lutheran Church, Carrollton, Texas, July 22nd, visitation at 10:00 am service at11:00am.
