Lois Verneil (Samples) Crabtree's Obituary
Lois Verneil (Samples) Crabtree, 87, of Plano, Texas went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 22, 2020 in Plano, TX.
Lois, known to family as Neil, was born August 5, 1932 in Amherst, TX. Born to Tom and Cora Samples, she was the youngest of 6 children. Lois graduated from Forest Avenue High School in Dallas, TX in 1949. She married the love of her life, Eddie Roy Crabtree on 6/15/1950 and they were blessed to celebrate life together for 63 years before his passing in 2013. They had one child, Kelli.
Lois was a homemaker for most of her life, but worked at the Dallas County Tax Office in the 50’s and also held positions at Dallas Federal S&L and Trinity S&L. Later, she enjoyed working as a receptionist at Mary Tennison’s beauty shop in the late 1960’s. But her true love was as a homemaker, and she especially enjoyed decorating and jewelry.
Ed and Lois relocated to Colorado in the mid ‘80s for his job. They lived in the communities of Westminster & Littleton, CO, for approx. 10 years before returning to Texas and settling in Plano. They were members of Hunter’s Glen Baptist Church and loved their church family and the members of the Power Pray-ers Sunday School class.
In 2009 her husband, Ed, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. For 4 years Lois faithfully took care of him and showed such great love and compassion that even strangers noticed. Those were her wedding vows, “in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do us part, according to God's holy ordinance” and it was important to her to honor those vows. She displayed such a great example of unconditional love.
Lois is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eddie Crabtree; sisters Polly Rust, Velma Scott & Catherine Ballard; and brothers Nolan Samples and Elmer Samples.
She is survived by her daughter Kelli Burkey and husband Randy of Corsicana, TX; granddaughter Britni Ganze and husband Jeffrey of Liberty Hill, TX; granddaughter Lindsay Ellis and husband Stephen of Plano, TX; grandson Blake Burkey and wife Lydia of Corsicana, TX; and 4 great grandchildren, Daxton Ganze of Liberty Hill, TX; Luke Ellis of Plano, TX; Lucy and Ryker Burkey of Corsicana, TX. Also several other family members whom she loved dearly.
The family wishes to express special appreciation to her doctor, nursing staff and CNAs at Carrara, as well as Silverado Hospice during her time of illness.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please consider a donation to Hunter’s Glen Baptist Church in Plano or the Alzheimer’s Research Foundation.
Visitation will be March 3, at Restland Memorial Chapel beginning at 9:30 AM. The Service will follow at 11:00 AM, with the burial at DFW National Cemetery at 1:30 PM
