Lois Pearl Roberts' Obituary
ROBERTS, LOIS PEARL 82, died on Dec. 8, 2013, in Port Arthur, Texas, of Parkinson’s disease. Lois was born in Greenville, Texas, on May 22, 1931, to the Rev. Cyrus K. and Susan Baker Roberts. She graduated from Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas, in 1952 with a degree in physical education. In 1977, she earned a master’s degree in liberal arts from Southern Methodist University. Lois lived her adult life in Dallas, where she taught physical education and coached several sports at McCulloch Middle School in the Highland Park Independent School District for more than 30 years. After her retirement, she became a massage therapist. Lois loved Jesus deeply. She was a devoted Christian who spread God’s love every chance she got. Lois was very active at First Baptist Church of Dallas, where she was a member of the sanctuary choir for more than 30 years. She had a beautiful contralto voice and could play piano, banjo, ukulele, and accordion by ear. She enjoyed going on mission trips with the choir, and she volunteered much of her time at Hope for the Heart ministry. She was a prayer warrior, a joyous woman who loved to laugh, and a great encourager to her family and many friends. She loved all sports. At different times in her life she sailed, played golf and tennis, and shot archery. She won gold medals in archery at the National Senior Games in 1997 and 2001, and a silver medal in 2003. She also was an avid sports fan-always cheering on her beloved Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers. Lois was preceded in death by her father in 1971; her mother in 1999; her sister, Evelyn Roberts Taylor, in 1984; and her brother-in-law, Truman H. Taylor, in 2013. She is survived by her niece, Suzie Bilnoski and husband, Robert, of Nederland; Texas, her nephew, Joe Taylor and wife, Cynthia, of Northville; Michigan; and her nephew, Ben Taylor and wife, Kristi, of Austin, Texas. She has eight great nieces and nephews: Amy Stutes, Kye Bilnoski, Luke Taylor, Julie Prothro, Zachary Taylor, Paige Taylor, Reagan Taylor and Cade Taylor. She has six great, great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM, Saturday, December 14, 2013, at Restland Abby Chapel, with interment immediately following at Ioof Cemetery in Caddo Mills, Texas.
