Lon A. Tillery's Obituary
TILLERY, LON ARTHUR February 2, 1921- December 12, 2006 Lon (Jabo, Mr. T) passed peacefully into the arms of God. He was born to Lon and Lucy Tillery and was a long time Dallas resident. He was a graduate of Forest Ave. High School. He lived in Rowlett for the last 11 and a half years. Lon had a life long career in the ice business. He began working at 11 and retired at 74. He loved the ice business and was a man of honesty, integrity, and a strong work ethic. Lon served proudly in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a Sgt. In military police in Comp. B #796 Battalion. He said after 9/11, he would serve again if he was able. He loved football and baseball, especially the Texas Rangers. Lon was very proud of his yard and worked so hard to keep his spot on earth beautiful. He even won “Yard of the Month”. He loved cars and going to car shows and hi “31” Model A was his pride and joy. Lon was a member of the old Ross Ave. Baptist Church and attended Lake Pointe Church for 10 years. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Elsie. He is survived by his wife, Gloria; brother, Earl and wife Charlene; son, Sam and wife Shelly; grandchildren, Shannon, Irin, and Will; children by marriage, David Jones and wife Donna, Laura McKinnon and husband Scott, Doug Jones and wife Sheri, Emily Doudt and husband Rodney; grandchildren by marriage, Krysta McKinnon, Lacy, Philip, Zachary Jones, Drew and Dylan Doudt, and Stephen and Joseph Jones. Thanks to 4th floor Jonson, BUMC Staff, Dr. Sloan, Dr. Stuart Owen and staff, Dr. Ernest Shelton, Dr. Carla East, and Vitas for their outstanding care. He fought heart disease for 23 years with courage and humor. Family requests donations be made to American Heart Association, Jack Graham and Prestonwood Baptist Church. Visitation will be 1 hour before service at Wildwood Chapel. Service will be held at 10:00 am Friday, December 15, 2006 at Restland Wildwood Chapel.
