Lona Mae Neal's Obituary
Lona Mae Neal, born on September 18, 1937, passed away on September 17, 2024, after a long
and courageous battle with cancer and dementia. She was the daughter of Clyde Ray and Lena
Mae Moon. Lona spent her early years on a farm in Ben Franklin, Texas, where she fondly
remembered helping her mother and grandmother with household chores. Although her family
relocated to Dallas in 1942 for her parents to work in the defense industry, she always considered
herself a “country girl.”
Lona graduated from North Dallas High School in 1956 and married her high school
sweetheart, Charles Mayo Neal. Together, they raised two sons, Chuck and Greg. Lona devoted
herself to her family as a homemaker and later worked for over 20 years as an insurance agent.
Her deep, abiding faith in Christ guided her life. A dedicated student of the Bible, she lived by
the call to love God and neighbor.
Lona was passionate about animals, particularly cats and dogs, and she cherished time spent with
her children, grandchildren, and tending her garden.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 50 years, Charles Mayo Neal, her sister
Ann, and her parents, Clyde and Lena. She is survived by her sons: Chuck Neal of Richardson,
TX, and Greg Neal, along with his husband Kade, of Des Moines, IA; her grandchildren: Ben
Neal and his wife Katrina of Denver, CO, and Jayden Neal of New Braunfels, TX; her
brother: Dick Moon and his wife Dianne of McKinney, TX; along with their children and
grandchildren, and many dear friends. Lona will be deeply missed.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 22, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at Restland Funeral Home
in Dallas. The funeral service will take place on Monday, September 23, at 2:00 p.m. in the
Wildwood Chapel at Restland Cemetery.
