Lorena M. Jones' Obituary
Our mother, Lorena M. Jones passed away on Saturday, October 5. She was born August 2, 1929, the last of seven children to Ernest Robert McComb and Joiva Cooper McComb, in Fort Worth, Tx.
She received a Bachelor of Science in Education from Texas Tech January 17, 1951, and just ten days later, she married our father, Gus Key Jones III. They raised a family in Richardson before moving into Lake Highlands. They were married 52 years before Dad passed away in 2003.
She taught school for many years, mostly at Guy Bullock Elementary in Garland. She loved teaching and had a special place in her heart for her young students.
In her later years, she often spoke of her childhood and young adulthood. She could remember the names of all her friends, their parents’ names and those of her teachers and spoke of most everyone with fondness.
She is survived by her daughters, Kathleen Bennatt of Smithville, Marianne Brito of Allen, and Nancy Jones of Garland, and by her grandchildren, Lora Shiery of Houston, Jessica Daffin of Josephine and Joshua Jones of Wylie, as well as her six greatgrandchildren. Her son Richard E. Jones preceded her in death in 2019. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, two of which were very, very close to her.
There will not be a funeral as that was her wish. We will, however, celebrate her life once her ashes are returned, at Restland Funeral, Garden of Ascension Lot 19(c), on Friday, December 13 at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her name to your favorite charity.
