Loretta Montgomery Williams' Obituary
Loretta Williams dedicated her life to service, both professionally and personally. After high school, she pursued her passion of caring for others by entering the nursing field. Upon completing her education, she served for many years with compassion and skill at several major hospitals in the area, touching countless lives with her dedication and kindness.
Loretta and her husband, Charlie, joined Mt Hebron Missionary Baptist Church in September of 1989 and immediately became integral parts of the fabric of the ministry of “The Mount”. Sister Williams served as a quiet but diligent leader at their church including working alongside her husband in the deacon ministry; working with the Student Scholarship ministry, the Health-care ministry and the grief-care ministry. Her service extended beyond the church walls, as she wholeheartedly volunteered her time and talents to numerous ministries and community outreach programs. During the early 1990’s while chairing the Scholarship committee at Mount Hebron, she initiated the debutantes’ luncheon, young men were allowed to become a part of this scholarship program. She also helped to initiate retreats, field trips and college tours that were organized for college bound students. Later in her service at Mount Hebron, she helped organize the Grief-care ministry, called at that time “Mercy Ministry”.
After the death of Loretta’s beloved husband, Charlie, she picked up the mantel to serve in his most cherished ministry, The Mount Hebron Christian Academy. Loretta dedicated herself to continuing the Williams family legacy of serving the children of the Mount, East Garland and beyond. She joined the Academy Board and served as its secretary for many years. She was first in line to both volunteers, organize projects and initiate new directions. She only receded in her commitment as her health began to fail. Loretta will forever be remembered for her time, talents, and generous annual donations to MHCA.
After retiring from nursing, Loretta continued to serve in her community by volunteering at various hospitals and actively participating in a nurses' organization, where she enjoyed fellowship with fellow professionals.
Personally, Loretta felt a deep connection to the earth which was nurtured by her father, a farmer in Mississippi, who instilled in her a love for vegetable gardening. Wherever she and Charles made their home, Loretta cultivated vibrant gardens, a testament to her nurturing spirit and connection to her roots. Beyond her professional and spiritual ministry pursuits, Loretta embraced an active lifestyle. She was an enthusiastic participant in community activities and sports, including soccer. Even in retirement, Loretta took time to travel around the country and the world with friends. She also remained committed to her fitness, diligently working out several days a week with her trainer until her health began to decline. Loretta’s life was a testament of her unwavering dedication to worship of God and service to others including her family and the surrounding community.
She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and serving with her. She leaves behind her son, Reginald Williams, Sr. and her grandsons, Troy, Chris, Reginald II, and Devon Williams to cherish her memories.
A service for Loretta will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at 11:00 am at Mount Hebron Missionary Baptist Church, 1233 South Highway 66, Garland, Texas 75040. A repass will follow in “The Cave”.
