Lorraine G. Lovell's Obituary
Lorraine and her identical twin sister, Lucille, were born to a mom and dad who were not expecting to have twins. It was during the depression. The older five children had a first and a middle name, but Lorraine and Lucille only got first names because their parents had run out of ideas! When the twins went to school, their teachers never knew them apart; even their father had a hard time distinguishing the two, referring to them both as “daughter.” Lorraine and Lucille went through the 11th grade in Celeste, TX and then graduated–Lucille was valedictorian and Lorraine was salutatorian. After graduating, the twins went to John Tarleton Junior College and even in college, they dressed alike! In their trigonometry class, Lucille would often explain her problem, and when the professor turned toward the blackboard change seats with Lorraine and explain Lorraine’s problem too. The professor never realized that he had been fooled. After college, Lorraine eventually began working at Magnolia Petroleum Company. She met Calvin (Cal), her future husband in April 1951 when he substituted on her bowling team. They married 7 months later on November 21, 1951 when Lorraine was 30 years old. She worked full-time for Magnolia (eventually to become Mobil Oil) until her first daughter, Diane was born. Her second daughter, Carla was born 2 ½ years later. She continued as a full-time homemaker and a part-time career woman until just before Diane got married in January 1974. At that time, Lorraine began to work full-time again until she retired at age 70. She loved her job at Mobil Oil and said that she only retired “because she thought she was supposed to.” Lorraine was a wonderful mother who was loved by everyone, especially by all her daughters’ friends.Lorraine and Calvin thrived in retirement. Neither were the type to sit and let life pass them by. They were involved in multiple volunteer capacities, traveled some, babysat their 8 grandkids and played bridge regularly. Lorraine was a very social person and loved to spend time with friends. She was a great conversationalist and showed genuine interest in everyone she met. She and Cal had the gift of hospitality and were quick to invite friends and family to enjoy a meal at their house and to invite out-of-towners to spend the night with them. In their 80’s, Cal and Lorraine joined Park Cities Baptist Church. They were involved in a very vibrant senior class, “Floyd’s Faithful” and made numerous friends. In 2011, Lorraine and Cal celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary and the following year they moved to White Rock Court Independent Living Community. A few months later in the summer of 2012, Cal died. Eventually, Lorraine had some medical needs that led her to move to Caruth Haven Court Assisted Living Community. She adjusted well to the move and made friends with the residents and staff. The staff gave her wonderful care and she gave them lots of smiles in return. You might say she was the “sweetheart” of the whole community, according to staff who have stopped to share stories and sentiments! During her last years of life, she became especially good friends with Clarence Griffith. He still lives at White Rock Court and visited her several times each week. Even in her 90’s, she enjoyed life and was a delight to everyone!Lorraine went to heaven last week at the age of 97 ½. She is survived by daughters Diane (and Cyrus) Cozart, Carla (and Joe) Hysell, grandchildren Cara (and Daniel) Rossbach, Evie (and Adam) Morgan, Nathan (and Valerie) Cozart, Courtney (and Kyle) Rogers, Tyler (and Brooke) Hysell, Emily (and Zack) Bassett, Kenton (and Kenzie) Cozart and Kirsten Cozart. Lorraine also had 8 great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: Denison Forum on Truth and Culture, 17304 Preston Road, Suite 1060, Dallas, TX 75252.
