“Mrs. VZ” was truly the only person I would call a “second mom”. I don’t say that lightly. No aunt, no teacher, no parents of other friends ever came close to my being able to say that. Mrs. VZ and clan befriended me and treated me like family. Through the wonderful but oftentimes crazy teen years of the late sixties and early seventies, she became the “cool mom”…someone you could talk to about anything. She was genuinely enthusiastic and supportive of our many projects we attempted to do; music, art, film and so on.
She treated you with respect even when your teen antics may have tried her patience and her kindness made you want to rise to her expectations and not disappoint her. She was the calm center of what was often a turbulent time. Many, many of my happiest teen memories, too many to list, involve her in some way. She truly was a precious lady and a “mom” to so many.
