Lou Reece Bennett's Obituary
LOU REECE BENNETT
Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many passed away on October 17, 2024.
She was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma on January 23, 1935, and made her life in the Richardson, Texas and contiguous cities of Dallas, Texas. Lou was a loving and devoted person who selflessly cared for and nurtured her family and friends throughout life. She enjoyed tending to her flowers and garden, knitting kitchen ware, quilting clothing and blankets, cooking wonderful food, reading books, writing to her friends and family, playing the piano and organ, being in nature and spending time with her family.
Lou inspired love, admiration and devotion from every person she encountered in life with her loving, caring, and selfless ways of engaging with others. Her influence and love will never be forgotten or lost, but carried on to others through her husband, son, daughter, two grandchildren, and many friends.
Eulogy
Beauty in a person’s character is an extremely rare thing to come by. For this, I draw from my life, my grandmother. Since I was a young child, I have always been fortunate to have a guardian angel watching over me, my grandmother Lala.
My dear Lala, spoon fed my brother and I since we were born to when we could feed ourselves. She was there taking the two of us to preschool in the below freezing cold weather outside, taking an ice scraper to the windshield of her Oldsmobile sedan to drive the two of us safely. Upon the age of three, she sat me down and taught me right from wrong and to never steal or lie. Growing older, she never raised her voice or got angry with the two of us. With zen-like patience she would just say, “It’s okay Trevie boy. Don't worry over it. It will all work out. Getting angry, irritated, frustrated or anything of the such, is just simply a waste of your time and energy. You will get nowhere with it. You will get there and do just fine by staying positive.”
Moving to my teenage years, she still persevered showing unflinching character, setting a good example and morals for my brother
and I to live by. Lala selflessly cared for her mother and her home, cared for my grandfather and their home, my uncle and his matters while he was gone for work, and my mother, brother and I when we would be fortunate enough to visit with her.
Into her mid-sixties and until her departure from this world, Lala was still chugging away making wonderful foods for her family to eat, knitting potholders and scrubbers for friends and family, and caring for all her friends and family. Even with a heavy workload throughout life, Lala still made time to speak with me and be there for me. Never once, did she ever miss my brother or my birthday, Christmas, Valentine’s Day or another holiday to remind us just how much she loves and cares for us. I cannot think of anyone other than my wonderful grandmother Lala to represent beauty in a person’s character.
It is with great sorrow that Lala has left us, but I know that if there is a heaven, heaven has reclaimed one of their angels that they were gracious enough to loan us and the world for the time we had with her.
