Louella "Sue" Nicol's Obituary
Louella Halling Nicol “Sue”, was born in River Falls, Wisconsin, on October 27, 1924, only child of Priscilla and Jesse Halling. Preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Lt. Col. Robert L. Nicol.Her ecumenical background flavored her life as a believer in Christ. Raised by a Lutheran mother, where she learned the Lutheran catechism, Roman Catholic grandfather, Baptist grandmother, attended Baptist summer camp, married a Methodist, charter member of PCPC. She later returned to her roots of the Baptist church.She loved people, loved to dance, loved to travel, loved the “Orient”, as she called it. As the wife of a career Army officer, Sue moved 23 times around the globe. Her home still reflects her favorite place she lived, Japan, where she lived over 6 years. She loved the challenge of a move, working with what she had to make it fit into each new home. Her motto that she taught her children well, was “Bloom where you are planted”, which she embraced. The wisdom, taught to her children and grandchildren still resonates with each of us.Known for her leadership skills, she was often elected to head organizations such as: Protestant Women of the Chapel and Gray Ladies of the Red Cross Volunteer in Germay. Involved in supportive roles of her children she served as President of the SMU Mothers Club, President of the Tri Delta Mothers Club and Sunday school teacher.Survived by her sons, Lee Nicol and wife, Kathy; Mark Nicol and wife, Sharon, of Fort Worth and daughter Priscilla Horn Underwood and husband, George of Dallas. Grandchildren, Suzanne Deriso of Atlanta, GA, Michael Horn or Dallas, TX, Leslie Peterson of NYC, Brad Nicol, Laura Bull, Jenna Nicol, Zack Nicol and 6 great grandchildren.With heartfelt thanks to the staff and caregivers of Belmont Village, her faithful companion Patricia Jimenez, and the staff of 5 Star Premier Residences.A Celebration of Life for Sue will be held in Restland’s Wildwood Chapel on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at 12:30PM.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Park Cities Baptist Church, Buckner Children and Family Services, or the charity of your choice.
