Louis Wiggins' Obituary
Our beloved husband, father, papa, great-grandfather, and friend, Louis Daniel Wiggins, 96, peacefully went to be with the Lord early on May 18, 2024. He is now joyfully reunited and dancing with his beautiful bride, Wanda Jeane.
Louis was born in Athens, Texas, on April 21, 1928, to John Wesley Wiggins and Stella Pansy Clark Wiggins. He married his high school sweetheart, Wanda Hughes, on July 16, 1948. Louis proudly served in the United States Army as a Sergeant in the Dental Unit at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri.
Louis was very proud to be from Garland, TX, where he raised his beautiful family and worked as a machinist at JY Taylor and Kraft Foods. His talents lead him to own several businesses and in 1975, he started a plantation shutter business, completing countless projects and becoming a trailblazer in the shutter industry. Louis retired at the remarkable age of 94, never ceasing to amaze those around him with his spirit, drive, and unconditional love.
A true American patriot, Louis's 96-year journey as a devoted husband, loving father, inspiring papa, fun great-grandfather, wise friend, brilliant wood craftsman, and collector of many treasures will always be cherished. You would never find him without a Dr. Pepper, his tape measure, or his man-made glitter known as sawdust. Even at 96, his playful spirit shone brightly. His pride and joy were his great-grandchildren, who he said kept him young as he chased them around or playfully picked on them.
Louis will be dearly missed by his daughter, Debbie and her husband Jim Van Zant and daughter Regina Burns Finley; grandchildren, Kerry and Joy Van Zant, Emily and Lance Burroughs, and Calvin and Anna Burns; and great-grandchildren, Sophia Grace Burroughs, Isabella Clark Burroughs, Eleanor “Ellie” Jeane Van Zant, and Jackson "Jack" Kerry Van Zant. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Wanda Jeane, his parents and his son-in-law, Bob Finley.
A celebration of his beautiful life is scheduled for 10:00 am, with visitation beginning at 9:00 am on May 24, 2024, at Wildwood Chapel, Restland Funeral Home in Dallas. Memorial contributions in Louis' honor can be made to the T. Boone Pickens Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 12477 Merit Drive, Dallas, TX 75251. The family is beyond grateful for the loving care and compassion the staff provided in the last week of Louis’ life.
