LTC Louis David Wittkower Jr.'s Obituary
WITTKOWER, JR., LTC. LOUIS DAVID Passed away June 16, 2012. Born January 8, 1919 in Dallas. Married March 14, 1942 to Pauline King, his high school sweetheart, celebrated their 70th anniversary. Survived by children Louis III, Patricia Golkar, Robert and Michael and 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren and other family. Graduated from Forest Ave High, NTAC(UTA), and U. of Maryland. Commissioned 2nd Lt, US Army, Ranger trained, landed Omaha Beach D-Day 1 commanding 244 men Company E, 38th Infantry, 2nd Div. US Bronze Star with V and Purple Heart, French Legion of Honor (Chevalier), South Korean Chung Mu Distinguished Mil Svc Medal with Gold Star. After military service, taught JROTC at W.W. Samuell High for 18 years. Member of Military Order of the Purple Heart, Service in MOAA Dallas, 2 Div. Indian Head Assn Dallas, MOWW, Military Officers Assn. Member Texas Retired Teachers Assn and Dallas Retired Teachers Assn., and Georgia Grand Lodge Master Mason. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 19, 2012 after 6:00 pm at Restland Funeral Home. Service Wednesday, June 20 at 12:30 pm, Restland Memorial Chapel, followed by a procession to DFW National Cemetery with a gate time of 2:30 pm.
