Louise Little Barbeck's Obituary
Louise Little Barbeck went to be with her Lord on November 13, 2010, surrounded by her family. She was born May 8, 1914, in Corsicana, Texas, to Dillon Alva and Evelyn Lee Haslam Little. The family moved to Dallas that same year, when her father joined Magnolia Oil Company. Lou graduated from Highland Park High School and received a bachelor’s degree from SMU in 1936. That same year she married William Randolph Barbeck. They had two daughters, Ann Elizabeth and Sara Lee (Sally). In 1956, Lou became involved at the local level with her college sorority, Kappa Kappa Gamma, as Province Director of Chapters. She later served at the national level as Director of Chapters, Director of Membership, Vice President and National President, an office she held from 1968-1972. She enjoyed her travels with the sorority and made many friends of all ages. She further served the Kappas as a registered Parliamentarian at the 1974 National Convention. On Sunday, October 24, 2010, she received her 75-year pin at the local Kappa Kappa Gamma Founders Day celebration where she was recognized for all her contributions to the sorority. After her retirement from Kappa, she enjoyed traveling around the world and playing bridge with her close friends. Lou was active in a variety of activities. She volunteered as a Gray Lady during World War II in the blood donor section. She also enjoyed working with children at the Children’s Medical Center. She was a long time member of Highland Park Methodist Church, a member of the Dallas Country Club, the Dallas Woman’s Club, Dallas Garden Club, several book review and Bible study clubs as well as her beloved birthday club. Her mother and her special Aunt Frankie surrounded her with beautiful opera and symphony music, and she attended performances regularly with friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her beautiful daughter, Ann Elizabeth Barbeck Woods, as well as many beloved family members and friends. A naturally out-going person, she had many friends in all walks of life. She is survived by her daughter, Sally Barbeck Cecil, and husband Philip of Paris, Texas; four grandchildren, Carl Cecil and wife Stephanie of Paris, TX; Nancy Ann Woods of Bryan, Texas; Kathy Orsak and husband Paul of Dallas, Texas; and Steve Cecil and wife Julie of San Angelo, Texas. She was a loving, generous “Mimi” to her six great grandchildren, Dillon and Randle Cecil, Emily and Sarah Orsak and Cole and Meredith Cecil. Special thanks go to her devoted caregiver, Dana Phillips. Lou was a vital, gifted lady, a true force for good in the world, and she will be missed greatly by her family and her many friends. There will be a funeral service at Restland Wildwood Chapel on Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at 12:30PM, with entombment to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Salvation Army, 5554 Harry Hines, Dallas, TX 75235; Children’s Medical Center, 2777 Stemmons Frwy, #700, Dallas, TX 75205; St. Jude’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or charity of choice.
