Memorial Salute to 1st lieutenant Louise Torian, May 31, 1924 - November 2, 2022
Louise Torian of Dallas Texas passed away on November 2,2022 at the age
of 98. She was born on May 31,1924 in Dallas Texas to Edward Brown
Torian & Sallie Reach Torian.
At an early age Louise began her medical career at St. Paul Hospital as a
nurse. The nuns of St. Paul Hospital sent Louise to New York to learn a new
medical field called neurosurgery.During the early 1900's neurosurgery was
a developing medical procedure. There were few neurosurgeon doctors and
nurses.
After completing neurosurgery medical school Louise returned to Texas,
and joined the army to do her part in World War II. Louise was stationed in
south Texas and then headed to the war in Germany. I't Lieutenant Army
Nurse Corp.Louise Torian was decorated with "World War II Victory
Medal" and*Army of Occupation Medal".
When the war was over she founded a travel agency in France.
Louise returned to Texas to care for her Ayi"glu,ner. St. Paul Hospital
contacted her for employment. She practiced neurosurgery at St. Paul
Hospital, Methodist Hospital and Baylor Hospital. She served as a Reserve
Officer of the Army until August 196I.
Louise would say, "Always select a field where there is great demand but
few to fill the position." She switched from neurosurgery to anesthesiology.
Later she settled in with St. Paul Hospital as lead nurse and retired from St.
Paul at the age of 65. After retiring Louise hung up her nurse uniform but
continued practicing her nursing skills helping those seeking help.
Louise is survived by her second cousin Bill Weatherford, who is the son of
Louise's cousin Catherine Torian Weatherford, second cousin Kathleen
Torian Taylor and Kathy's mother Rose Torian, who married Louise's cousin
James Torian, and her most devoted friend for 52 years Gayle Lewis.
After retiring, for the first time in her life Louise joined a religious
congregation. She joined Eitz Chaim congregation to serve Jeshua.
Graveside service will be held Monday November l4h at2:30 p.m.
