Lovella Bell Hagler's Obituary
HAGLER, LOVELLA BELL was born in Lehigh, Oklahoma of parents Willis Lewis and Marietta Belle (Jackson) Bell. In early childhood her family moved to Clarendon, Texas, then to Amarillo, Texas and when she was in Junior High School they moved to Big Spring, Texas. Lovella started taking violin lessons at a very early age and by the time she was 12 years old was playing for Sunday School and church services every Sunday in the First Presbyterian church in Big Spring. During her senior year in high school Lovella filled in for a cousin and taught a violin class weekly in Colorado City, riding the bus from Big Spring to Colorado City (a distance of 40 miles). On graduation from high school at the age of 16 she and her Mother (a widow) moved back to Amarillo where Lovella supported her Mother by working at the Community Chest, (later known as the United Way). After her marriage in 1937 to Hub Hagler, they moved several times to various oil field towns in West Texas where Hub was employed by Standard Oil Co. of Texas. Soon after the start of World War II they moved to San Diego, California where Lovella volunteered to work in the Rations Office. After the close of the war Lovella moved to Midland, Texas and having become an accomplished seamstress she operated several businesses from her home, she designed and made slip covers for furniture, custom made lamp shades, and did alterations on women’s clothing. Her last business venture was monogramming which she did for over 30 years. In 1982 she moved to Presbyterian Village North in Dallas, where she resumed her music by playing the violin for Worship Services at PVN. She was a life long member of the Presbyterian Church and served as Sunday School teacher, 15 years as Pastor’s aid. She and Hub dedicated one night a week for visitation for the Church for over 20 years. Lovella is survived by 2 sons, Herb and wive Jody, Randy, 3 grandchildren Jeff and wife Samantha, Erika and Ryan, 2 great grand daughters AJ and Rhi. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Presbyterian Village North Memorial Fund or Faith Presbyterian Hospice.
