Lowell Kenneth Hess' Obituary
Lt Col Lowell K Hess, USAF (ret), 92, Plano, Texas, faithful Christian, loving husband, father and Pop, passed to Glory on Feb 27, 2014. Ken born Aug 4, 1921, Tremonton, Utah, graduated Bear River HS, joined the National Guard in 1938 and Army Air Corps in 1940. Ken finished pilot training in Lubbock, Texas, where he met the love of his life, Nora Juanita Hess (Ward). They married June 8, 1943 and celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in 2013. Ken left the USAF in 1960, serving 23 years. In WWII he flew the B-24 Liberator, was shot down and captured on his 18th mission, and remained a POW until war’s end. Ken worked for LTV until his retirement in 1988. He was a faithful member of his Seekers Sunday School class, enjoyed working on his computer, and was known for his quick wit. Ken is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Margaret Perry. Ken is survived by his wife, Nita; three children, Kris Ross and husband Les, Ken Hess and wife Deb, Kitten Arthur and husband Richard; six grandchildren, Jason Bean, Jeremy Ross and wife Jincy, John Paul Hess and wife Mary, Cort Arthur and wife Jamie, Cole Arthur and wife Shelby, and Jenna Hess; two great-grandchildren, Brennan Ross and Brett Ross. He is also survived by his brother, Neil Hess and sister, Yvonne Petersen, and many fabulous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 6-8 PM on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 11 AM on Wednesday, March 5th, 2014, at Restland Memorial Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project. The family wishes to thank the staff of Baylor Hospital Plano and Pop’s many friends at First Christian Church.
