Lowell Graves Winkler's Obituary
Lowell Graves Winkler, 94, of Dallas, Texas, passed away June 22, 2020. Lowell was born on May 25, 1926 in Dodge City, Kansas, the oldest child of Lura and Irving Winkler. Lowell graduated from Montezuma High School, before serving in the Army during World War II, posted in the Philippines. He returned home following the war and worked as a land man for Republic Natural Gas. Lowell graduated from Southern Methodist University in 1963, after which he worked more than 20 years in the Trust Department of Republic National Bank, now part of Bank of America, heading up their small businesses held in trust. Following retirement, he served on the Dallas County Appraisal Review Board. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Lind Winkler, his daughter and son-in-law, Anne and Kirk Ossewaarde and his brother and sister-in-law, Riley and Sara Winkler, together with seven nieces and nephews. Lowell and Ruth met at a YMCA / YWCA social in 1953, soon after they both moved to Dallas. They married in 1955 and remained devoted to one other for more than 65 years. Lowell was a long-time, active member of University Park United Methodist Church. He served on the Board of Directors of the Dallas Wind Symphony and volunteered at the North Dallas Shared Ministries' food bank for many years following retirement. An extraordinarily kind and witty man, Lowell was happiest in the company of family and friends. He enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday afternoons, walking his Sheltie and most anything that included chocolate as a primary ingredient. Private services will be held at Restland Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 30th. In lieu of flowers, donations in Lowell's memory may be sent to the University Park United Methodist Church or the North Dallas Shared Ministries.
