Lucile West's Obituary
Lucile West passed away peacefully at her home on April 26, 2015. She was born May 5, 1912 in Sabetha, Kansas, to Carrie Nora Beachy and Calvin Arthur Lichty, She was preceded in death by her parents and all of her four siblings, the only love of her life, Howard West. She married Howard Trimble West on June 25, 1933. They lived in various cities as he progressed to National Director of Warehousing for Walgreens, his only employer. They returned to Dallas where he retired and passed away in 1973. She is survived by her only son, John Howard West of Dallas, her “only daughter,” daughter-in-law Joy West, three grandchildren, Holly Johnson, Gaymarie Kurdi and Cliff West; six great-grandchildrenand who loved “hanging out at Mimi’s house.” Lucile, or “Lu,” was a tireless and faithful church and hospital volunteer for over thirty years and a member of the Walnut Hill United Methodist Church for over forty years. Always busy, she was an accomplished cook, golfer, gardener, an avid reader, world traveler, and a fierce Scrabble and duplicate bridge competitor. Her memorial service will be at Walnut Hill United Methodist Church, at 2:00 PM, Thursday, April 30, 2015. A reception will follow in the Church Fellowship Hall after the service. She will be buried next to her husband at Restland Funeral Home at a private service. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243. In lieu of flowers, friends are encouraged to make gifts to her Church, Children’s Medical Center, to the Scholarship Fund at McPherson College in McPherson, Kansas or to the charity of their choice.
