Lucy Dell Bateman's Obituary
LUCY DELL BATEMAN November 18, 1932 – June 3, 2009 Lucy Bateman, age 76, died at her home in Pottsboro, Texas on Wednesday, June 3, 2009. She was born November 18, 1932, in Monticello, Texas, to the late H.C. and Gladys Parr. She graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in 1950. On June 10, 1950, she was united in marriage to her beloved Bert Bateman. She died one week before their 59th wedding anniversary. Bert and Lucy moved to Dallas in 1950 where they both worked for the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company until their retirement. Lucy retired from Bell in 1986 after rising to the rank of supervisor. A few years before her retirement, Lucy received a Bachelor Arts in Business from Southern Methodist University. Lucy was a member of the Georgetown Baptist Church in Pottsboro. Upon retirement, Bert and Lucy moved to their retirement home on Lake Texoma in the town of Pottsboro, Texas. The years in Pottsboro were filled with many days of fishing, traveling across the United States in their motor home, and developing long-term friendships with their neighbors in Lazy Acres. Lucy is survived by her husband, Bert; her twin sister, Julia Nell Parker of Lancanster, Texas; sisters-in-law, Katherine Parr of Weatherford, Texas, Billie Parr of Longview, Texas, Sheri Parr of Ridgecrest, California, Jo Parr of Austin, Texas and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her five brothers, Arvel, Hershel, Delton, Owen and H.C., Jr. Visitation for family and friends will be 6:00 – 8:00 PM, Saturday, June 6, 2009 at Restland Funeral Home, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, Texas. Funeral services for Lucy Bateman will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, June 7, at Restland Wildwood Chapel in Dallas. The Rev. Billy Vier, pastor of Preston Community Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Restland Memorial Park. Donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association. The family would like to thank the staff of Heart to Heart Hospice and Heavensent Caregivers for their help and support.
