Lucy Nunn Bryan's Obituary
Precious and dear to so many, Lucy Nunn Bryan died on Monday, November 30, 2015. Bright, feisty, creative, generous and loving, Lucy was a gourmet cook, sharp bridge player, talented pianist and natural-born overachiever. A member of Pi Beta Phi sorority, she attended the University of Arkansas and graduated with a chemistry degree from the University of Kansas. Recruited by Eastman Kodak to Rochester, New York, she married Lewis Calvin Bryan there in 1945. Originally childhood neighbors in VanBuren, Arkansas, they were married 68 1/2 years. After moving to Dallas in 1946, they joined Highland Park United Methodist Church, where she and Lew served on the board and taught Sunday school. A consummate volunteer, Lucy was President of the Preston Hollow PTA, led multiple Bluebird and Camp Fire groups, served on the Dallas County Council of Camp Fire and received its Luther Halsey Gulick National Award. President of Pi Beta Phi’s Dallas Alumnae Club, Lucy later led Pi Phi trips to New York and received the Evelyn Kyle Peters Angel Award. A board member of The Dallas Woman’s Club, the Dallas Garden Club, and president of its Louise Belsterling Foundation, she was also president of the Mary K. Craig Class. Lucy co-founded the Penny Ante Investment Club and belonged to the Seneca Book Club. Devoted foremost to her family, Lucy was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Jennie Nunn, and her husband, Lewis. Survivors include daughter Janie Bryan Loveless (Tom), grandson Lewis Bryan Loveless (Claire), and great-grandson, Keith; daughter Becky Coleman (Ben), children Katherine, Drew and Margarett Hansen (Kris). We especially appreciate the loving care of Drs. Donna and Franklin Casey, Windsor Senior Living and Lexington Place. The family will greet friends at Restland Funeral Home, 13005 Greenville Ave., Dallas, 75243 from 4:30-6:30 pm on Sunday, December 6, 2015. Services will be held at 2:00 pm, Monday, December 7, 2015 in Highland Park United Methodist Church’s Cox Chapel. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243. Memorials may be made to SMU’s Pi Beta Phi Scholarship Fund, Highland Park United Methodist Church’s Chancel Choir, The Dallas Woman’s Club or the charity of your choice.
