Lucy Johnston's Obituary
Lucy M Johnston Obituary Age 88 passed from this earth on the evening of October 22, 2023. Her memorial service will be held at Restland Memorial Park, Dallas TX on Friday October 27th, 2023 at 10 am. Mrs. Johnston was born February 8, 1935 in Mobile, AL to Bernard & Lucy Mahorner. Lucy spent her early years of life enjoying the coastal environment of the Mobile area going to her family’s beach house in Gulf Shores and in appreciation of the aquatic vistas on both sides of the Mobile Bay with her doting family and many friends. She attended Auburn University as an ADPi and followed her passion for art to the Ringling College of Art & Design in Sarasota, FL. Before marriage she was employed in the draftsman's department of the Mobile Sector of the Army Corps of Engineers. She married the love of her life Claude Edward Johnston(deceased) February 10th, 1960 and celebrated 47 years of marriage before his death.
She and Ed moved to the outskirts of Dallas in 1968 where she lived in the same house on Ridgetown for 52 years rearing her six children and immersing herself in the numerous activities that come with an energetic and happy family of eight. Lucy had an adventurous and creative spirit which compelled her first to travel west in her youth working at Yellowstone National park over two summers. She channeled her creative energy into oil painting on canvas in her 20’s, to repainting and decorating the interior of her bustling and always lively home. Occasionally she would dabble in macramé or hook rugging but later in life she pursued gardening. As an outlet for her creativity and love of learning she became a certified Master Gardener and volunteered her time teaching others how to nurture and grow beautiful flowers and plants in association with the Dallas Arboretum which became one of her favorite places to visit in her advanced years. She was a lifelong Catholic and active member of St Rita parish where she made many friends. Noni as she is called by her grandchildren and family exemplified love and forgiveness to the countless people around her and her wonderful smile acted as a window to her beautiful soul that we she leaves behind will forever miss.
Survivors include her sister Marian Wilhelm, four daughters Teague Winger, Laura Furr, Courtney Spratt, Elizabeth Comer, two sons Ryan Johnston, and Matt Johnston, seventeen grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. The family requests donations in lieu of flowers to Cal Farley's Boys Ranch at calfarleys.org
