Lucy Nelson's Obituary
NELSON, LUCY ETTA BENHAM 102 died on March 30, 2007. She was born January 6, 1905 in Carson, Okla. then Indian Territory. She was proud of her Creek Indian heritage and graduated from Eufaula School for Indian Girls in Eufaula, OK and Haskell Institute, Lawrence, Kansas where she met and married her high school sweetheart, Benjamin Nelson. She was predeceased by her husband of 73 years, Benjamin Nelson, and their son Benjamin Nelson Jr. She is survived by a daughter, Marguerite Malcolm and son-in -law William Malcolm of Richardson, TX; daughter-in-law Wanda Clark Nelson and grandson Clark Nelson of Walnut Creek, CA; grandsons Mark Malcolm and wife Kim of Richardson, TX and Matthew Malcolm and his wife Kelly of Austin, TX; two great grandchildren Hailey Malcolm of Richardson and Robert Malcolm of the Navel Academy in Annapolis, MD; a brother Newman Benham of Lamar, OK; two sisters, Ida Dunn of Mountain Home, AR and Betty Harrington of Detroit, MI; and numerous nieces and nephews and their families. Lucy retired from Red River Army Depot in Texarkana where they lived for 57 years. She was a member of the Rose Hill Baptist Church. After moving to Dallas she was a member of Prestonwood Baptist and First Baptist Church. She was a generous loving Christian wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all who knew her. She lived with her daughter for almost the last three years of her life. She will be greatly missed. A graveside service and burial will be at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Texarkana at a later date.
