Luella Wilkie Anglin's Obituary
Luella Wilkie Anglin was born in Heath, Texas, September 3, 1915 and just a short 102 years later on September 9, 2017, she decided to leave us and rejoin her beloved husband, Dick; in a world beyond this one just out of sight but forever present. Aunt Lou or LuLu was the eldest of 6, having 3 Sisters and 2 Brothers. She was the first to arrive and the last to leave us. Perhaps her way of ensuring all of us that remain will be safe and forever carry in our hearts a sense of family and tradition.Family means many things to each us. Lou along with her Brothers and Sisters, were raised as orphans at the Masonic Home & School of Texas. As the eldest, Lou was instrumental in keeping her family together through good and bad times. As children, young adults and as they each fell in love and began their own Families, Lou was always there to give advice, provide guidance, and offer support. Lou’s personality was larger than life, and with that came the ability to talk, and talk she did telling wonderful stories while sharing memories and advice. She could talk to just about anyone about anything; it was a true gift of conversation. There were times when Lou, along with her Sisters would all be talking at the same time – it was like 4 conversations at once, until one of them would notice none of them were listening to each other, then they would all stop and break into laughter.Lou had a 35 year career working for the US Postal Service as the Supervisor of the Card Punch Division, retiring in 1971. She told stories of how she adopted many of the young women with whom she worked. She took several of those women under her wing, and especially enjoyed playing matchmaker for them. Several of these “adopted” young women went on to find wonderful husbands because of introductions and gentle encouragement provided by Lou. It was there that she herself met the love of her life, Richard (Dick) Anglin whom she married March 10, 1957, enjoying 50 years of marriage before Dick’s passing in 2007. And although Lou and Dick did not have children of their own – they forever accepted and treated their many Nieces and Nephews as their own; never failing to acknowledge a Birthday, show up for an event or share knowledge and advice via a story of some sort.“I am so Blessed”, a phrase we all have heard Aunt Lou say many times. And she was blessed with a long life and a large family that remains close today because of the examples Lou and her Brothers and Sisters created for all of the Nieces and Nephews. It is all of us who were blessed to have had her as part of our lives. Aunt Lou, you will be missed and forever in our hearts…Visitation will be from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Wednesday, September 13, 2017, at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm, Thursday, September 14, 2017, at the Restland Wildwood Chapel.
