Lura Marcella Stone Myers' Obituary
Lura Marcella Stone Myers passed into her eternal home on Tuesday, May 9, 2023 in Grayson County, Texas with family by her side. She was born on February 28, 1934 to Roddie and Mary Drake Stone in the Ralls, Texas area as the fourth child in the family of 11 children. Lura was raised working the cotton fields of West Texas before moving to North Dakota for a short time. After returning to Texas, she lived in the Fort Worth area and met Jesse Myers. They married in August of 1959 and lived in Fort Worth where she was a mom and homemaker. They moved to Arlington, Texas with their family which included Becky, Larry, and Garry. Following Jesse’s job, they went a little more east and settled in Dallas, Texas until Jesse’s retirement in 1989.
Lura was always involved in her children’s school and church activities. She was a faithful church choir member for many years and enjoyed all of her friends and church activities. You could find her playing any kind of board game, 42, or Bridge, and she did not play to lose even with the grandchildren. Lura and Jesse were fortunate to travel to several places around the world and she even kissed the Blarney Stone when visiting Ireland! Upon Jesse’s retirement, they moved to Bella Vista, Arkansas to enjoy golfing, going to craft fairs, and all the luxuries of being retired. As Meme and Granddaddy, there were lots of visits to and from their grandchildren back in Texas.
After Jesse’s death in 2008, Lura moved back to Texas to be near her family. She settled into Senior Housing for several years until her health moved her to Assisted Living in Bonham, and most recently in the Cedar Hollow Skilled Nursing Facility in Sherman. After a very short illness, Lura passed away and is now at peace and completely whole with her Savior and Lord. She will be missed by her family and friends, but we know her faith has finally been fulfilled.
Lura was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse, her parents, and siblings Velma Cotter, John Stone, Seni Roller, Jim Stone, Roddie Lee Starkey, and Henry Stone. She is survived by her children and families Becky and Marvin Kimmet, Larry and Susan Myers, and Garry Myers; her grandchildren are Amanda and Ryan Eney, Maelyn and Grayson; Tad Kimmet, Teagan, Easton, and Lena, from Montana; Levi Kimmet from Minnesota; Lauren and Danny Martin, Blake Myers and Kathryn Myers; Madison Myers from Florida and Christian Myers from Oklahoma.
