Mrs. Luther D. Hunter - Chandler “Mother”
Mrs. Luther Dee Ruth Chandler, born to the late Jim Hunter and Pearlie Brown Hunter on January 21, 1919, in Mineola, Texas; Wood County. Both her parents and her seven siblings, her husband, one child and one grandchild preceded her in death. She attended school in Wood County, completing 8th grade. She later married George A. Chandler, Sr. of Mt. Pleasant, Texas, and they were the parents to 3 children, Della Boykin(deceased), Billie Porter and George Chandler, Jr. The Chandler family moved to North Park (Elm Thicket) in October of 1960, where mother resided on Cowan Avenue for nearly 61 years. Mother worked on her family’s farm as a child and teenager, as a young adult she was employed as a domestic worker, later she was employed with the Dallas Public School Services at K.B. Polk Elementary School. Her final 35+ years of employment were in the pharmaceutical assembly industry where she retired at the age of 89 years old.
Mother accepted Jesus Christ very early in her life and was known by everyone who knew her or knew of her as a person of good character and a very hard worker. She shared the gospel of Jesus Christ with everyone wherever she went. Her favorite scripture was the 23rd Psalms with extra emphasis on verse 6 her final days here with us, “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever and ever. The night before she left us, she was very coherent and made it very clear that she was on her way to be with Jesus to the place He had prepared just for her. Praise the Lord!
Mother leaves behind her cherished family and her precious memories of being a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a great-grandmother, a great-great grandmother, an auntie, a friend, a Sunday school teacher, a member of the church choir and finally her most memorable work of all is her faith in Jesus Christ alone.
Grandchildren: Bruce Chandler(deceased), Michael Boykin, Anthony Porter, Renita Boykin, Sandra Carter (Michael), Gregory Porter (Berneadia) and James Fitzgerald Porter.
Great-Grandchildren: Ketrease Eastman (Benjamin/Children: Aidan, Peyton and Holden); Bruce Jones (L’Oreal/Children: Sydney, Camryn, Jeremy and Madalyn); Octavia Porter (Children: Nashita); Michelle Carter; Alexander Porter; D’Andra Carter; Nicholas Porter; Michael Carter, Jr.; Raheem Chandler; Luther Chandler; Olivia Garrett (Children: Kartier and Karson); Lee Garrett, Jr. (Na’Kiya, Jaleeyah, Adreienne and Zariyah) and a host of family and friends.
Mother, your life of a 102 years, 8 months and 14 days is the life and legacy of a matriarch. Thank you for your wisdom and your faithful, unwavering, wholehearted commitment to our Savior, Jesus Christ. We are missing you already, we love you!
Many daughters have done nobly, but you excel them all. Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised. Give her the product of her hands and let her works praise her in the gates. Proverbs 31:29-31
