Luther William Martin's Obituary
Luther William Martin, 94, died October 6, 2017 in Dallas, Texas. He was born July 22, 1923 to Jim Brit Martin and Cora Ethel Clay Martin in Troup, TX. He married Dorothy Jean Riddell on January 24, 1952 in Dallas, Texas.Luther was a valued employee of Shell Oil Company from 1946 to 1984, when he retired after a full career that took him from Texas, to Washington State, to California, to Illinois, and back to Texas in 1972. He also served in the U. S. Merchant Marine during WWII.He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jean Martin and three children: Luther W. “Bill” Martin, Jr. (San Antonio, TX) , Randall B. “Randy” Martin (Castle Pines, CO) and Janice Elaine Martin Carle (Issaquah, WA). Further, they and their spouses provided Luther and Jean with three grandchildren: Andrew Martin Carle (age 23), Meredith Martin Carle (age 18), and Samuel Brit Martin (age 18).Luther was preceded in death by 7 siblings: Hulen Pierce Martin, Reagan Martin, Myrtle May Martin, Rayford Britt Martin, Lola Ethel Martin, Willie Sue Martin, and Clay Allen Martin. Their children and grandchildren rounded out a bountiful extended family.In lieu of flowers, monetary donations to the hospice care program of the Visiting Nurse Association (VNATexas.org) are welcome.Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at Restland Funeral Home, Wildwood Chapel. Visitation will be Tuesday, October 10, 2017 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Restland Funeral Home. Burial will be immediately following the funeral service at Restland Memorial Park, Garden of Gospel.
