Luther C. Rodgers' Obituary
Luther Clifford Rodgers passed away on July 17, 2015 at the age of 86. He is survived by Katie Lynam Rodgers, his wife of 65 years, their daughter Kathy Rodgers Watt and son-in-law Tom Watt, siblings Virginia Huckaby, Ozzie (Shirley) Rodgers and Riley (Joan) Rodgers…and his canine companion, Sparky. He is preceded in death by his parents, Luther Sifford and Effie King Rodgers and step-mother Callie A. Sasseen Thomas Rodgers…the matriarch of an absolutely wonderful family too numerous to list. Luther was born in Charleston, Mississippi and raised in Texas. He is an active duty veteran of the U.S. Army, retiring as Sargent, USAR after a total of 10 years of service. He was a superb machinist who could build or repair pretty much anything, applying his skills in his various military roles, a 35 year career with Lone Star Gas Company, and his many hobbies. His interests, besides mechanics, ran the gamut from wildlife and nature protection to woodworking to gardening to environmental concerns. He was always up for a challenge and possessed a contagious curiosity about how things work. A man of simple integrity, Luther was a loyal friend, honest to a fault, worried about the future of the planet and a friend to the lost or injured animal. Flowers are welcome, or memorial contributions may be sent to Wounded Warrior Project at www.WoundedWarriorProject.org. Visitation and services begin at 11:00AM on Tuesday, July 21st in the Wildwood Chapel at Restland Funeral Home, 13005 Greenville Ave. Dallas, TX 75243. Luther would good naturedly snarl and say “I don’t want to wear a tie!”, so dress casually for the heat. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243.
